begin your visit at koldinghus history center

We recommend that you start your visit at Koldinghus History Center. Here you can explore the castle's history told through models of the castle as it looked at different times through history.

The center tells through pictures and articles how the Danish kings used Koldinghus as a defense of the kingdom's southern border, as the venue for important state acts, as a residence and as a center for local administration through centuries. Here you will learn about the Spanish soldiers in 1808, about the fire, which left the castle in ruins, and the unique restoration.

Film ABOUT Koldinghus

On the third floor of the East Wing next to the elevator, a film with a dramatized tale about Koldinghus before and now is displayed (duration about 16 minutes).

The film tells about the thoughts behind Inger and Johannes Exner's restoration of the castle, and footage from Queen Margrethe's inauguration of the Museum at Koldinghus in 1989 is shown.

Volunteers and amateur actors from Queen Dorothea Teatret in Kolding appear in old historical costumes in the film, produced by SydProduktion and sponsored by the Business Club Koldinghus.

please do not touch the exhibits

A museum exhibit is often the only one of its kind, and can also be fragile. Many of them have survived over a period of many centuries, and must be preserved for the continued pleasure of the generations to come. Even gently touching paintings, sculptures or furniture can result in damage, especially if repeated by thousands of visitors.

Please help us preserve our cultural heritage.

Every day MADKÆLDEREN serves a classical lunch buffet with a selection of the best from the traditional, danish lunch table made from the seasons local ingredients. You can enjoy the lunch buffet everyday from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm. We recommend you book a table prior to your visit.
